Compton Unified School District and Star Trek: The Next Generation Star Celebrate the Power of Healing and Resilience!
Step and Repeat LA creates stage backdrop for family-friendly event to raise awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences - ACEs.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 08, 2021 ) COMPTON, CA - Every day, children across the world experience trauma, whether in the home, school or in ordinary, day-to-day places. When most people think of the word “trauma”, they imagine something “big” or “disastrous”, or perhaps even something only discussed on an episode of ‘Dateline’.
While this may be true in some cases, many children who experience trauma experience this during an incident that may seem, from the outside looking in, insignificant. Truth be told: trauma comes in many forms, and even the smallest, or seemingly “insignificant” occurrence can have the greatest impact on a child’s development, confidence and self esteem.
That is why on Saturday October 2nd, the Compton Unified School District (CUSD) partnered with NumberStory.org, along with actor / director and author LeVar Burton - who most will remember from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ or ‘Reading Rainbow’ - to help raise awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs.
The event was called ‘Don’t Judge a Book by It’s Number’, a free-for-all-ages, family-friendly event to help celebrate the power of storytelling, healing and resilience! According to the event’s website, attendees were able to learn more about ACEs, their potential impact and strategies on how we can all learn to heal from our own childhood experiences.
Step and Repeat LA was on-site to create a beautiful Hedge Wall display to serve as the stage backdrop, where keynote and guest speakers could deliver speeches and read stories aloud to the audience.
The wall was created using Step and Repeat LA’s signature Hedge Flats, which each measure 4’ wide by 8’ tall, and are covered in an artificial lush green material that resembles that of a trimmed hedge plant. The total dimensions of the wall measured an impressive 8’ tall by 16’ wide, with artificial roses scattered throughout in various colors and sizes, giving the wall a fun, fresh look. 3D lettering that read NumberStory.org, along with various hashtags, was placed on the upper-centered portion of the wall to help finalize the backdrop.
Step and Repeat LA is an independently-owned, one-stop-shop red carpet event company that provides Media Walls and photo-op backdrops for every type of event.
