Miami OB/GYN Specialist Will Urge Congress To Support Liability Reform, Women’s Health Funding

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 16, 2005 ) WASHINGTON, DC –- A staunch advocate of better healthcare for women, Randy A. Fink, MD, a Miami obstetrics/gynecology specialist, is urging the U.S. Congress to enact medical liability legislation that protects patients and ensures physicians can remain in practice.

“Medical liability reform is vital to all South Florida physicians,” says Dr. Fink, who is the only Miami-Dade obstetrician/gynecologist participating in a national “White Coat Rally” organized by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). The rally will be held Tuesday, March 15, at 3:30 p.m. in the Mansfield Room of the U.S. Capital in Washington, D.C.

A board-certified specialist with a solo practice in Kendall, Dr. Fink will meet with members of South Florida’s congressional delegation to discuss professional liability reform – an issue of particular importance to OB/GYN specialists. He will also emphasize the importance of adequate funding for women’s health care.

“Women’s health research funding is far below the level needed to meet the health care needs of America’s women,” said Dr. Fink. “This is one of ACOG’s priorities for the year, as well as ensuring that important safety net programs like Medicaid remain stable and fully funded.”

Dr. Fink is a Fellow in ACOG, and has been active in the organization since 1997. One of his roles has been developing video as a tool for residency program and OB/GYN recruitment.

Since moving to Miami in 2001, Dr. Fink has been a sub-investigator in several national women's health clinical trials involving contraception, sexuality, pregnancy concerns, and hormone replacement. Since 2003, he has been a peer reviewer for the Journal of Family Planning & Reproductive Health. A highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Fink has presented hundreds of programs on topics ranging from birth control to hormone replacement therapy.
