Compass Aerospace
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 13, 2002 ) Compass Aerospace, a provider of precision-machined parts, sheet metal parts, and integrated kits and assemblies, announces the appointment of Hudson B. Drake to the company's board of directors. Headquartered in southern California, Compass Aerospace is a $100 million company with seven facilities strategically located across the U.S. to serve the commercial and defense markets.
Well respected in both the business and government service arenas, Mr. Drake has served in leadership roles throughout his 30-year career. After 17 years with the Teledyne, Inc. organization, he retired in 1997 as president of the company's Aerospace and Electronics segment and a senior vice president of the corporation. During his nine-year tenure as president, Mr. Drake was responsible for nine companies with revenues of $1.5 billion as well as for Teledyne's international marketing and all 17 of its overseas offices, which generated $538 million in sales in 1997.
Mr. Drake gained recognition as a dynamic leader early in his career and was asked to serve in several capacities in the federal government, including the position of deputy under secretary of commerce; director of the Bureau of Domestic Commerce; and chief of the U.S. delegation for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's Industry Committee, in Paris, France.
Following a national competition, Mr. Drake won a presidential appointment as a White House Fellow from 1968-1969. This nonpartisan honor was based on academic, professional, and civic achievements and he was one of only 15 men and women from across the country selected. During his appointment, Mr. Drake served as special assistant to both Vice President Hubert Humphrey and Vice President Spiro Agnew. The following year he was appointed executive director of the President's Commission on White House Fellows by President Richard Nixon.
Throughout his career Mr. Drake has been actively involved in promoting the growth and success of the aerospace industry. Among other leadership roles, he served on the board of governors for the Aerospace Industries Association and was appointed by the secretary of defense and U.S. trade representative to the Defense Policy Advisory Committee on Trade for a five-year term. Another area of emphasis for Mr. Drake has been education. At the collegiate level he served on the board of overseers for the University of California at San Diego and on the president's advisory council at San Diego State University. He also spent 11 years on the board of governors of the Greater San Diego Youth Science and Engineering Fair. Mr. Drake has taken seriously his responsibility to improve the community in which he lives and he has been actively involved as a trustee and member of the executive committee for Children's Hospital of San Diego and as chairman of the board for Children's Hospital Research Corporation.
