The solution was implemented in the country’s payment system CENTROlink, enabling individuals to transfer a maximum of €15,000 ($17,997.92) within 10 seconds 24/7, 365 days a year. To increase the scope and acceptance of instant payments, in January 2018 BoL partnered with European payments company SIA to access RT1, the pan-European instant payments infrastructure. As of August 2018, over 1,000 payment service providers (PSPs) from 16 countries - Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Monaco, Malta, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the UK - have joined the instant payment scheme.
- In order to promote electronic payments among Lithuanians, BoL passed a new regulation on payment service offerings. Effective from February 2017, all banks and credit unions are obliged to provide basic payment services for no more than €1.50 ($1.80) per month, or €0.75 ($0.90) for low-income residents. As of the end of 2017, the basic payment account service is being used by more than 42,000 residents.
