Global Chloroform Market Analysis by Application, by End User, by Geography to 2025
NxtGen Reports recently added a new market research report in its offerings titled, "Global Chloroform Market Analysis by Application, by End User, by Geography to 2025".
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 06, 2018 ) The report provides forecast and analysis of the global Chloroform market. It provides market overview of global Chloroform market of in terms of revenue (in US$ Mn). Furthermore, the report includes drivers, restraints, trends, and opportunity of the Chloroform market and their impact on each country during the forecast period.
Chloroform, also known by various other names such as Trichloromethane, Formyl trichloride, and Methane, is an organic compound having the molecular formula CHCl3 and molecular weight 119.369 g/mol. It is a clear, colorless, and highly refractive liquid with pleasant, ether-like odor, and sweet taste. It is denser than water and nonflammable under majority of conditions but burns under extreme conditions. Chloroform has a boiling point of 143-00b0F at 760 mm Hg or 62-00b0C and a melting point of -82.3-00b0F or -63.41-00b0C. It has a density of 1.4832 at 68-00b0F or 1.4788 g/cu m at 25-00b0C. Its vapor density is 4.12 and vapor pressure is 100 mm Hg at 50.72-00b0F or 197 mm Hg at 25-00b0C. Liquid Chloroform shows a tendency to react adversely with certain forms of plastics, rubber, and coatings. Chloroform can be produced by two methods viz. the action of bleaching powder on alcohol or acetone and by chlorination of methane.
Historically, Chloroform was used in healthcare industry as an anesthetic. The use has been discontinued in many countries due to its suspected carcinogenicity. In fact, sustained exposure to Chloroform can lead to impaired liver function, nausea, cardiac arrhythmia, and central nervous system dysfunction. However, Chloroform is still used in certain pharmaceuticals and dental procedures.
The Chloroform market has expanded at modest rate during the last few years owing to its use in manufacturing several products such as pesticides, dyes, fire extinguishers, fluoropolymers, and hydrochlorofluorocarbon-22 (HCFC-22). Chloroform is relatively unreactive and miscible with majority of liquids such as water, alcohol, and ether. This property acts as a major driving factor for Chloroform market. Meanwhile, the Montreal Protocol requires phasing-out the use of HCFC-22 between 2010 to 2020 because of its ozone-depleting tendency. Effectively, a restraint on the Chloroform market is its use in manufacturing products which are harmful to the environment. Governments have also imposed strict regulations on the use and handling of Chloroform to safeguard the population from its harmful effects. The regulations have further slowed down the growth rate of the market.
The -201cGlobal Chloroform Market Analysis and Forecasts to 2025-201d can be segmented into application, end user, and region. Based on application, the market can be categorized into solvent and intermediate. The product is commonly used as an industrial and laboratory solvent for various purposes such as manufacturing of fats, oils, rubbers, resins, and dyes. It is used as an intermediate in production of several chemicals such as the refrigerant HCFC-22 and fluoropolymers such as fluorinated ethylene-propylene (FEP) and polytetrafluoro-ethylene (PTFE). Even as the use of HCFC-22 is likely to be phased-out, the use of Chloroform in the production of fluoropolymers is expected to continue.
The application of Chloroform is dependent upon its grade. High purity grades are used in manufacturing HCFC-22, alcohol-stabilized grades are used as solvent, and technical grades are used as an intermediate in industrial products.
Based on end user, the market can be segmented into healthcare, chemicals, agriculture, and others. While the use of Chloroform in healthcare industry has declined, its use in chemicals and agriculture industry has remained constant. In other cases, Chloroform is used to bond acrylic glass and as reagent and solvent in laboratories.
The Chloroform market based on geography is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. In terms of volume, the highest exporters of Chloroform during the last few years included Germany, the U.S., South Korea, and Russia. On the other hand, the highest importers included The Netherlands, India, and Italy. The North American market is further segmented into US and Canada. The Europe market is categorized into UK, Germany, and France. The market for Chloroform in Asia Pacific is segmented into Japan, China, and India. The Latin American market is categorized as Mexico and Brazil. The Middle East & Africa region is classified as South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and UAE. The Chloroform market report includes market size and analysis for all the above-mentioned regions and countries for application, and end user.
