(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 18, 2010 ) White Lake, MI – The Oakland County Road Commission admits that their storm drain has sustained damage, resulting in its failure to work properly; yet, they refuse to fix it. Since fall of 2008, Susan Downey and her neighbors have tried to get the Oakland County Road Commission to repair damaged storm drains causing flooding.

Since the storm drain became damaged, homeowners have experienced excessive flooding in their front yard and crawl spaces under their homes. “According to my neighbors who have lived here for 15 years, flooding was never a problem until fall of 2009,” said Downey. “When The Oakland County Road Commission sent people out to assess the problem, they admitted that the system had sunk deeper into the ground and was in need of repair. The guy who appeared to be in charge said they were going to report the damage and resolve the problem.”

Nearly two years has passed and nothing has been done to repair the storm drain. “The ditch in front of my house is much deeper now,” said Downey. “It used to be long and narrow, but the ground is eroding away and a wide circle is forming in the center. Eventually, the damage is going to cause the tree in my front yard to fall into the street.”

Susan has been reaching out to the public, hoping someone will know who she needs to contact to resolve the problem. “I’ve spoke to the County Commissioner, Jim Runestad, but so far, he has not been successful in providing a solution.”

Susan and her neighbors would appreciate suggestions or advice anyone may have.
