Cumberland is one of the privately held coal producers in the United States. Massey will acquire Cumberland free of debt. The stock today also touched a new 52 week high at $54.09. So far in this year the stock went up over 26%.

Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) rallied 1.64% to $67.66 after it plans to raise spending in Norway this year because of increased drilling as production declines. Exxon expects capital and operating spending in Norway to rise from 17 billion kroner ($2.9 billion) last year, Jan Aage Hansen, a joint-interest manager at Exxon in Norway, said in an interview today in Bergen, Norway. Production is expected to decline from the 420,000 barrels produced in Norway in 2009 because of maturing fields, he said. The Scandinavian country accounts for 10 percent of Exxon’s global production. The stock has a 52-week range of $63.56-$76.54.
Alcoa Inc. (NYSE:AA) jumped 6.01% to $14.64. The stock has a 52-week range of $5.22-$17.60.
XTO Energy Inc. (NYSE:XTO) added 1.44% to $47.81. The stock has a 52-week range of $29.75-$49.10.
