Terra Industries Inc. (NYSE:TRA) added 10.85% to $45.67 on 36.78 million shares after CF, which had called off a year-long effort to buy Terra in January, said it was now offering $47.40 per share in cash and stock for the company based on Monday's closing prices. Last month, Terra agreed to be bought by Yara for $4.1 billion in an all-cash deal that valued the company at $41.10 per share.
Atmel Corporation (NASDAQ:ATML) gained 7.49% to $5.02 on 12.04 million shares after the company was upgraded by Broadpoint AmTech Research from “Neutral” to “Buy.”
McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) also rose 6.72% to $25.42 on 7.74 million shares.
Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (NASDAQ:GMCR) surged 5.11% to close at $87.88 on higher than average volume.
Somaxon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOMX) added 6.67% to $4.64 on 2.65 million shares.
Origin Agritech Ltd. (NASDAQ:SEED) increased 14.43% to $9.99 on 11.04 million shares.
Sotheby's (NYSE:BID) also went up 5.47% to $27.96 on 4.33 million shares.
