(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 05, 2009 ) Dallas, TX - Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE:ABK) surged 35.14% to $1.50 on over 91.51 million shares after the company reported a $2.19 billion quarterly profit Wednesday as the company got a big accounting boost from deterioration in the perceived creditworthiness of its main bond insurance unit. Still, the company said it paid more than $300 million in claims during the quarter and expects to pay another $2.5 billion, at least, through the end of 2010. Third-quarter net income came in at $2.19 billion, or $7.58 a share, versus a net loss of $2.43 billion, or $8.45 a share, a year earlier.


Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) was one of the gainers and rallied 4.76% to close at $7.92 on over 38.50 million shares. The stock hit an intraday high and low of $8.05 and $7.60 respectively. So far the stock prices went up over 20% in last six months. Xerox Corporation is engaged in developing, manufacturing, marketing, servicing and financing a range of document equipments, software, solutions and services. Digital systems include printing and publishing systems; digital presses, advanced and basic multifunctional devices, which can print, copy, scan and fax; digital copiers; laser and solid ink printers, and fax machines.


Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) was one of the most active stocks as it gained over 6.42% to close at $32.64 on huge volume of 35.91 million shares after the company today announced that it is targeting a high single digit non-GAAP earnings per share compound annual growth rate from fiscal 2009 to fiscal 2013. According to Reuters Estimates, analysts were expecting the Company to report non-GAAP EPS of $3.25 for fiscal 2009; non-GAAP EPS of $3.44 for fiscal 2010; non-GAAP EPS of $3.79 for fiscal 2011; non-GAAP EPS of $3.65 for fiscal 2012 and non-GAAP EPS of $3.47 for fiscal 2013.
