China Continues to Dominate Footwear Industry Worldwide

China has emerged as a dominant player in the global footwear industry in terms of production, consumption and exports, says RNCOS.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 05, 2009 ) New Delhi, India - According to our market research report “China Footwear Market Analysis”, China has emerged as a dominant player on the global map of footwear industry, surpassing even the US in annual footwear consumption during 2008. Annual footwear consumption surpassed 2.5 Billion pairs in 2008 and this figure is anticipated to rise in the current year on the back of rising income levels, rapid urbanization and relatively stable economy.

Our report has revealed that around 70% of the world’s total footwear was produced in China during 2008 and nearly two-third of this production was aimed at exports to western countries including the US and Europe.” Such high percentage share in the world’s total production earmarks the country ability of providing low cost facilities of production, high government support, and a better infrastructure to name a few”, says a Sr. Research Analyst at RNCOS.

However, the current global economic downturn has had a negative impact on the country’s exports as its main export destinations are badly hit by the recession. In such a situation, exporters are eying on the diversification of their markets to include other emerging destinations. Our report also emphasizes on the fact that China itself presents a lucrative destination as just around 2 pairs of shoes are consumed by an average person in China, while the ratio is around 8 pairs in Europe and the US.
