Fire officials found burned clothing in the clothes dryer, a possible indication that the dryer was the cause of a fire resulting in extensive heat and smoke damage to a condo. Residents were not at home; two pet parakeets were killed.

Heat and moisture must be able to escape the dryer drum and go out of the home through the dryer vent. Because of the moisture, it sticks to the sides and builds up, reducing air flow and causing the dryer to overheat. Annual dryer vent cleaning is required for even the very best dryer vent system to increase dryer efficiency and reduce the risk of a dryer fire.”
