(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 14, 2009 ) Detroit, MI – Robert Shumake, founder of the Shumake Scholarship Relays, is sponsoring college athletes in the HBCU Cross Country Classic in North Carolina. As a team, the NCCU women placed third out of 13 schools taking part in the HBCU Challenge; the men’s team placed 7th out of 12 participating schools.

The North Carolina Central University developed the Academic Support Program for Student Athletes so that all student athletes have the best possible opportunity for success.

The main objective of the program is to provide appropriate academic support for student athletes, including study halls, academic mentoring, tutoring, special assistance, counseling and more. Specific goals of the program include enhancing academic performance of student athletes through a comprehensive support system; helping student athletes’ progress toward graduation, assist with transition to college life and more.

Robert Shumake’s support of teen athletes began when he founded the The Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays. As an all city track and field competitor, Robert Shumake understands the significance and the impact that organized team sports can have on a young person. He attributes some of his many business achievements to the positive experiences he had as a member of Detroit 's Edwin Denby High School's track team.

Robert Shumake is an active culturist, specializing in political and educational fundraising strategies. He has received the National Urban League Rising Star Award presented to individuals who have achieved significant business success. Mr. Shumake is a philanthropic leader who supports and forms many fundraising events throughout the year.
