VeriChip Corp. (CHIP) engages in the development of human-implantable RFID microchip technology for patient identification. The Company's product is the world's first and only human-implantable RFID (radio frequency identification) microchip cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“On June 11, 2009, the WHO raised the threat of the H1N1 to phase 6, a pandemic alert of the highest level. The last time a pandemic outbreak of this severity occurred was in 1968, when the Hong Kong flu caused the death of more than 1 million individuals worldwide. According to the WHO, phase 4 though phase 6 alerts include recommendations to mitigate the spread of the H1N1.
“CHIP is positioned to address some of the challenges and concerns surrounding the spread of the virus; CHIP’s implantable RFID chips and patent licenses will be combined with Receptors LLC's biosensors to develop a virus triage detection system. The triage system is expected to provide information identifying whether there is a virus present; classify the virus as a pandemic threat, or not; and identify the pathogen, according to the CHIP white paper of May 7, 2009.”
