(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 25, 2009 ) NEW YORK CITY – Following singing for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at the prestigious Braemar Gathering in Scotland, PBS stars from 'Highland Heartbeat' will be crossing the Atlantic to perform in their first major Concert in the United States at The Capital Bank Theatre at Westbury, Long Island, on Sunday, September 13th at 7pm. It's an exciting new production bringing together both traditional and contemporary Celtic music from Scotland.

Led by acclaimed singer and broadcaster Fiona Kennedy, Highland Heartbeat will appeal to all ages and is a great family show.

The live Highland Heartbeat production was inspired by the successful TV show of the same name – broadcast locally on Public Broadcasting Service channel WLIW21 and on stations across the country. It was developed by Fiona Kennedy and her sister, Morven.

Songs in the show span the ages and highlight a unique blend of traditional and modern, from beautiful ancient Gaelic melodies together with the driving rhythmic tribal beat of the islands. Robert Burns classics are included as well as Amazing Grace as you've never heard it before as well as well known and loved songs such as Loch Lomond, 500 Miles and Scotland's own Auld Lang Syne, the international song of friendship featured at every New Years party and 'Sex and the City' movie! This dynamic cast keep it up to date with KT Tunstall's hit Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and also revive 'Breakaway' made famous by Art Garfunkel.

Fiona Kennedy said: "We are very excited to be coming over to perform on Long Island. We are also delighted to have a local choir, dancers and pipe band join us in what will be a great celebration of Celtic music ancient and modern with some well known songs and lovely harmonies. We want everyone to unleash their inner Scot and start dancing in the aisles at the end!"

Fiona Kennedy's career includes presenting network BBC shows in the UK such as 'Record Breakers' and 'Songs of Praise', singing in West End productions, at the Edinburgh Castle G8 Summit Launch, and at the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations at Balmoral Castle. Fiona, from Aberdeen, is best known in the US as the host of Tartan TV on PBS.


The other cast members are:

Ross Davidson, 21, also from Aberdeen, who is currently completing his HND course at Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre and Arts. Ross is also an Armani model!

Jillian Isbister, 20, from Shetland, an accomplished pianist who has supported well-known Scottish artists including Phil Cunningham, Aly Bain, and Eddi Reader.

Darren MacLean, 23, from Skye, who is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Glasgow.

Frances McCann, 20, from Glasgow, who is a recent graduate of GAMTA.

Maureen McMullan, 27, from Coatbridge, near Glasgow, who is studying at Berklee School of Music in Boston on a scholarship funded by Sir Sean Connery.
