Degrees With A Future: Information Security

The demand for distance learning degrees in information security continues to soar, even in the current economic recession. Experts in information security are in high demand, both in governmental and financial sectors.

If you hear the words “cloud,” “twitter,” and “ecosystem,” and your mind goes immediately to computer networks and security protocols, a future in environmental science probably isn’t in the cards for you. Your computer skills are probably already in such high demand, though, that you aren’t even thinking about anything besides a degree in information security.

The recent outbreak of concern over the “conficker” worm may cause many companies to rethink downsizing, especially when it comes to eliminating the jobs of experts in information security. The huge increase in the number of viruses, worms, and trojans used by malicious hackers to exploit the information technology industry has left high-profile companies such as Verizon extremely aware of their potential vulnerabilities.

In June, Verizon is scheduled to release its cloud computing services. Executives have made every effort to offer potential customers three different levels of data security to prevent data theft or loss. Of course, not all data will require the highest levels of security, so clients can expect to pay premium prices to keep their data safe.

Even the U.S. Department of Defense isn’t immune to the efforts of these hackers. Just this week, hackers broke into the department’s computers and downloaded an alarming quantity of information about the U.S. military’s latest fighter pilot design. The most secure files, however, were stored on computers that were not connected to the Internet, and therefore not accessible to the hackers.

Despite the current economic struggles most companies are facing, Degree.Com’s expert Sheila Danzig remains confident that students who earn a degree online in information security won’t be disappointed. In fact, her consulting agency, located at HYPERLINK "http://www.degree.com" www.degree.com, reports that interest in distance learning degrees in information security continues to soar.

Instead, Danzig predicts that the need for specialists with degrees in information security will continue to rise. “We’re still seeing a great amount of interest in online degree programs that specialize in information security. Most education experts realize that graduates in this field will be in very high demand as soon as the economy begins to rebound from the current recession.”

As the economy continues to struggle, business organizations will be desperate to keep proprietary information and sensitive data as secure as possible. Even when economic markets begin to improve, executives will be highly motivated to maintain industry secrets that will help their corporations maintain the competitive edge needed to get back on top and stay there. Are you ready to find your way to the top of the computer industry with a degree in information security?
