U.S. Treasury Department: DAILY TREASURY GUIDANCE FOR MONDAY, MARCH 23, 2009
Office of Public Affairs
(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 23, 2009 ) Washington, DC - Last month, the Administration unveiled a Financial Stability Plan to stabilize the financial system and ensure that it works with economic recovery, not against it, by providing the liquidity and credit consumers and businesses need to grow and thrive. Over the last month, Treasury has rolled out key components of the plan to increase the flow of credit and expand liquidity to help the system recover.
At 8:45 am, Secretary Geithner will offer an update on the Administration’s comprehensive efforts to increase lending and stabilize the financial system in a pen and pad press briefing at the Treasury Department. As part of the update, Secretary Geithner will discuss details of the next component: the Public Private Investment Program, which will invest alongside private investors in funds that will provide a market for the legacy loans and securities that currently burden the financial system. Press logistics information for the briefing is below.
Later in the morning, Secretary Geithner will join the President, the Vice President, FDIC Chairwoman Sheila Bair, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke for the President’s Economic Daily Briefing at the White House. There will be a pool spray at the bottom of the meeting. Please contact the White House Press Office for additional coverage information.
At 7:30 p.m., Secretary Geithner will participate in the Wall Street Journal Future of Finance Initiative at the Park Hyatt Hotel. Secretary Geithner’s session is open press.
