Fashion Model Lindy Kwock Says Fashion Week is a Go, With or Without Runway Shows
Fashion designers may scale back some in their spending for runway shows at Fashion Week, but intimate fashion presentations will take their place and Fashion Week will continue to draw the buyers.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 10, 2009 ) Henderson, NV - According to most reports, many designers are scaling back by hosting drop-by presentations instead of runway shows for this season's Fashion Week, inviting fewer guests (like Marc Jacobs is doing), sending invitations by e-mail instead of post (nearly everyone) or showing fewer looks to save on fabric and sample-making costs. But, Fashion Week will kick off and it will present the latest in next season's fashions.
Professional model Lindy Kwock knows the fashion industry is undergoing a reality check on its own. Kwock says, "magazines are sending fewer people to Europe. Stores too. And designers are looking for every way to trim."
Many of the designers are paying models with clothes, and using young set and lighting designers who see the shows as a playground for their ideas -- and are willing to work for free.
To Kwock and many of her modeling friends, this industry change away from the norm is signaling opportunity. "Many unknown young models will get a break in this climate of change," says Kwock.
Recession is somewhat changing how fashion designers show their clothes, but it is also opening new doors for the young and ambitious.
