The first diagnosis of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis occurred in 1997. In serious cases, it can lead to immobility and breathing difficulties, with the potential to be fatal. This is a relatively new disease and no cure has been discovered yet. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued three warnings about the effects of gadolinium between June 2006 and May 2007.
