Farm-to-Table Iowa Style Holiday Meals

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 07, 2008 ) The Iowa Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers Association is focused on promoting Iowa products and the old fashioned skills of cooking and baking with basic, fresh ingredients using streamlined methods to save time and money, and that's what you'll find in their newest cookbook, "Discover Iowa: Cooking with Iowa Wines, Meats and other Iowa Products."
Chef Sharon at the Farm House Bed & Breakfast (Fredericksburg, Iowa) is no stranger to preparing farm-to-table meals. She often prepares meals for events that place growers and livestock producers face to face with end-users at the dinner table since the B&B is housed on a working farm.
When our B&B guest diners are “talking to the people who produce their food and who cook it, they realize it can’t get any fresher,” says Chef Sharon.
The Farm House Bed and Breakfast experience includes walks along the Plum Creek Bike and Nature Trail that goes through the farm. From the ridge on the trail you can look down on Plum Creek as it lazily winds through the farm’s pasture where 300 or so head of Holstein cattle graze. The trail also goes between the Engelbrecht’s vineyard and farm pond where guests can fish and picnic. Then, there is The Farm House Antique and Wine Shop is located in a remodeled farm shed across the driveway from the B&B. The shop features the various wines created by Engelbrecht Family Winery. In the Discover Iowa cookbook you'll find Chef Sharon's "Farm House Chicken Catina" recipes. It is a favorite of guests as well as groups that have catered special events on the farm.
