Academy of Cinema and Television Students are Preparing for Hollywood’s Pilot Season 2009
The 2009 pilot season in Hollywood begins in January of each year and is the best time for child actors to audition and be cast in a new TV pilot. Academy of Cinema and Television students are preparing.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 10, 2008 ) Phoenix, AZ - Pilot season in Hollywood is an annual event of enormous impact for young actors as it is the time of the year when all the new pilots are created for all the television networks. Year after year it comes to town, whipping up emotions, reshaping the TV landscape, and often casting new faces in new shows.
Pilot season is that time of year when the networks commission a sample, a pilot, of a proposed television show that will give the networks a better idea if they should order up a full season of them - a series.
In January scripts start flooding in and the studios start deciding what they’re going to shoot for pilots. Everyone is hoping they have the right formula for the next hit series in the new Fall lineup.
These four months of the year are magic time: a frenzy of decision making, focus-grouping, rewriting, and–most importantly for the hungry young actor–casting. What this means that for young actors there is simple: pilot season is the best time of the year to be discovered and cast.
Because pilots may take months to develop, casting becomes a primary concern during the actual pilot-making process. The first quarter of the year is often the busiest and most beneficial time for actors, agents, and casting directors. This time of year brings children, teens and parents from far and wide to Hollywood for a chance to land an agent and/or role.
Many students at the Academy of Cinema and Television are already making plans to travel to LA right after Christmas. Most of these students already have personal managers and talent agency representation, so as soon as they arrive in town they can be sent on auditions.
The Academy students have a better than average chance of success, because knowing how the industry works, being placed in front of industry professionals on a regular basis and training from excellent instructors can make all the difference in the world. These kids and their parents are well prepared for the task.
There is nothing easy about breaking into Hollywood, but it can be done, and the pilot season of 2009 will once again produce at least one or two new faces that American audiences will embrace. The Academy of Cinema and Television is sure that more than a few of their students will be up to the challenge.
