Businesses to Invest in Energy Efficiency within the Next Six Months, Survey Reveals

Northern Kentucky Electric Service Releases 2008 Energy Management Survey: Incentive Programs, Projected Rate Hikes Top Motivators for “Going Green”

(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 20, 2008 ) Alexandria, KY — Tight budgets and rising energy costs are driving a significant majority of Cincinnati area manufacturing and industrial facilities to take immediate steps towards improving energy efficiency, according to the energy management survey commissioned and released today by Northern Kentucky Electric Service, Inc. The Greater Cincinnati electrical contractor finds that in anticipation of considerable rate hikes, facility managers are proactively preparing to take steps to become more energy efficient within the next six months or less.

“Facility managers are beginning to see the writing on the wall when it comes to rising energy prices,” NKES president Mike Wissman said. “It’s not going to get better anytime soon, and improving efficiency is the best way to keep up with production demands without blowing the budget.”

Wissman says that a prime motivator for plant managers to take a more serious look at their energy expenditures is rebate programs offered by area utility companies. He says that “more and more people are starting to become aware of the fact that utility companies are issuing penalties for excessive energy consumption, and by offering discounted upgrades, they are actively trying to help facilities avoid these costly penalties.”

Wissman advises facility managers who are looking to invest in energy efficient upgrades to find a contractor that offers a shared savings program in order to help them take full advantage of utility company rebates.

Comprehensive results from the survey can be found at www.nkyelectric.com.

The energy management survey was completed by Greater Cincinnati industrial and manufacturing facility managers during June and July 2008. The study was commissioned and compiled by Northern Kentucky Electric Service. For more information about NKES, complete survey results and other services offered, please visit www.nkyelectric.com.
