American Emu Association Praises Recipients of 2008 Bitsy Cartwright Pioneer Award

Achievements by Oklahoma Couple Recognized Nationally

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 23, 2008 ) San Angelo, TX -- The American Emu Association (AEA) announced today that Midwest City, OK members Floyd and Joyce Cook had received the 2008 Bitsy Cartwright Pioneer Award. Mr. and Mrs. Cook were recognized at the AEA 19th National Convention Banquet on Saturday, July 19, at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg-East. The award is given in acknowledgement of effort and work done by a couple or company in previous years to benefit the emu industry. The plaque reads: “In Recognition of Your Continuous Dedication and Many Years of Service on Behalf of the Emu Industry.” Originally titled the “American Emu Association Pioneer Award,” the award was renamed in 2004 in honor of industry pioneer, the late Bitsy Cartwright of Texas.

"The Cooks have been a great asset to the industry," said Marcia Huddleston, AEA Awards Committee Chair. "This award is testament to their commitment and determination. AEA received many compelling nominations, but the Awards Committee agreed that the Cooks accomplishments personified the criteria for the Bitsy Cartwright Pioneer Award, which includes success in the emu industry, strong leadership capabilities, proven mentoring skills, dedication and a commitment to advancing the industry.”

The Cooks have been members of AEA since 1994. Mr. Cook has served as president of the Oklahoma Emu Association and is currently serving on the Convention Committee, Policies and Procedures Committee, Bylaws Committee and Legislative Committee. Mrs. Cook has served on a state level.

The American Emu Association is a national, non-profit organization that represents an alternative agricultural industry, dominated by the small farmer, who is devoted to humane and environmentally positive practices that will produce beneficial products for society.
