Lance Hood of Success Insiders posed this question during an interview with Richard Parker. Richard’s answer was “It seems to be more realistic or more achievable to the average person where in fact very much the opposite holds true. But someone who’s working 9 to 5, to me, that’s all the more incentive.” According to surveys where people rate their jobs the results showed that 74% of people hate their job; they dread going to work in the morning. In other words, they hate most of their life!
Richard explains how so much of the work involved in finding and buying a business can be done online and through phone calls during non-business hours. Investigating what needs to be done, educating yourself, and searching for businesses, setting up calls, meetings and appointments can all be done in off hours. Anyone who says they cannot do it because they work 9 to 5 just doesn’t have the desire and drive to own a business.
Lance asked Richard “So, what do you tell someone who has these mental stumbling blocks; I’m too old, I don’t have enough money, or I just don’t have the time?” Richard answers with a laugh as he remembers his cousin’s 50th birthday and he says he cannot believe she’s turning 50. She replies, “It’s Ok; Fifty is the new 35.” It’s all about attitude related to age that has changed dramatically over the years. Typically speaking, when one is 35 – 55, they are ready for business ownership. They’ve had the benefit of experience working for a number of years to acquire some good skills and knowledge. They can now identify their strengths and weaknesses and make a pretty good choice as to the field of business they wish to enter. What is old? Colonel Saunders went into KFC when he was 67 years old! So, with the desire, there is no reason age should be a factor.
Richard goes on to answer the question of money. “How much do you need? The fact is you don’t need anywhere near the amount of money that people think they need,” says Richard. Of course, there is a correlation between the size of business that one can buy and what may need to be invested, but part of the goal is to get into something. The other part of the goal is to get into an existing business to provide a platform for generating money right away to build the business. Credit rating is also far less important because one of the things Richard teaches people with his program, which 91% of his clients are able to accomplish, is seller financing. The seller cares more about one’s ability to run the business successfully so his note gets paid.
