Taiwan’s Fuhsing Private School adopts 21st Century teaching methods with rollout of video-on-demand service from Datacraft
"Datacraft is the leading independent IT services and solutions company in Asia Pacific. "
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 01, 2008 ) Hong Kong – Taiwan’s Fuhsing Private School, has rolled out a multi-media video-on-demand (VOD) service, designed and built by Datacraft, to provide Internet access to video footage for lessons, teaching materials, speeches and other school activities for students, teachers and parents.
Completed in December 2007 after just three months, the new VOD service is now available outside school hours to provide students with the opportunity of additional study. The varied content enables parents to follow more closely how their children’s education is progressing and allows teachers to enjoy a closer level of communication with both parents and students.
“Fuhsing School always aims for excellence and our new VOD service uses the latest technology to raise the bar even higher,” said Ms Ping Lin, IT Department Head for Fuhsing School. “We have enhanced the learning experience for students outside the classroom; raised the level of involvement of parents in school affairs, and simplified the workload of our teachers.”
“One important advantage of letting students use technology from an early age is that they are better prepared to maximise its potential during further education and later during their working lives.”
Beyond the VOD service, Fuhsing School will develop a comprehensive e-Learning programme which will extend the current system by allowing web sharing of files that can be downloaded to PCs, iPods and televisions. A further planned development is e-Portfolio, a website feature that will allow students to upload project work online, where it can be edited, marked and archived for future reference.
Datacraft’s solution consists of a high quality video streaming link over a switched fast Ethernet network, which is backed by an expandable data storage system. Working closely with the IT Department at Fuhsing School, Datacraft managed all aspects of service implementation from network infrastructure planning, engineering and implementation.
Datacraft partnered with a local digital application company to ensure that the video application was fully integrated with the school’s IT systems and to install an easy to use graphical user interface (GUI)
“Technology has a big role to play in the future of education and Fuhsing school has taken a farsighted decision to make itself an innovator,” said Benjamin Wang, Datacraft’s General Manager for Taiwan. “By making the most of VOD, students will become more tech-savvy and their grades are likely to improve. Furthermore, the new technology rollout should help Fuhsing to enjoy a competitive advantage ahead of other Taiwanese schools.
“Now that the network is in place, a wide series of online learning tools can be rolled out to supplement VOD – and Datacraft has the experience to implement a seamless solution on behalf of Fuhsing School.”
