“This conversation needs to be heard during this political campaign year. It does not just affect seniors, Long Term Care is “Godzilla” and is devastating to everyone,” says Gregg Kroman, Executive Director, CashLTC.org. Current legislation: House bills H.R. 2096 and H.R. 2883 along with US Senate bill S.100 were introduced in both the House and the Senate to provide up to $3,000 annual tax credit for caregivers. The most promising is S.2337, a companion to H.R. 3363 that would allow employees to buy a Cash or traditional LTC policy with pre-tax dollars through employer-sponsored cafeteria plans and flexible spending accounts. Professionals and consumers should be encouraged to call Congress and Senate members to vote yes on these bills.
Even with universal health care as a possibility, no one should create false hope that the US could include, under its umbrella of coverage, the cost of long-term care. We only have to look to Canada, Japan and Britain, who already have universal health care and are faced with this economic storm, to see that the shortfall is not just in dollars, but also in manpower. Family and friends will have to toe the line; the question is, will they be paid or unpaid?
CashLTC.org's goal is to provide more opportunities than currently available in the market and to help buyers of all ages understand that CashLTC provides “cash now benefits,” as well as future coverage.
