'Rain Heat & Snow' Line Created by USPS reports Pasar Branded

Agency hopes new line creates new revenue stream

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- The United States Postal Service has been delivering mail in the rain, sleet, snow, and general gloom of the night for centuries. Now, the agency which has had such notable struggles with financing and revenue is hoping to bring you something to wear as a way to bolster inflow of cash.

The agency announced plans to open a line of clothing and accessories called “Rain Heat & Snow.” It has licensed its unofficial motto to the Cleveland-based fashion apparel company Wahconah Group, Inc., which will design the line of accessories and apparel.

It is a win-win for the cash-strapped Postal Service, which will see “a small percentage of sales,” according to the Isaac Crawford, CEO of the Wahconah Group. Crawford noted that the company will not pay a dime for the line, and that his company will finance it all.

Rain Heat & Snow will be released for men by the spring of next year, and will be sold in premium department and specialty stores. A women's line is in the works as well, though there is no set clock on its release.

According to sources, the line features all-season, all-weather gear, including the latest technology such as wicking fabric and jacks that can sync up with MP3 players. There will also be headgear, footwear, and coats, according to Roy Betts, who works as a spokesperson for the agency.

There is a dire need for revenue for the postal service, which is why the clothing line will be vital to the survival of the agency, and thus must have at least moderate success in the early going.

Earlier in February, the Postal Service reported a $1.3 billion loss over the final three months of 2012. The simultaneously announced that most of the Saturday mail will be discontinued.

Over the last year, the agency has cut hours, postal plants, and healthcare programs for employees. A large majority of the money constraints come from the 2006 congressional mandate which required pre-fund healthcare benefits for all future retirees. Due to that, the service has been borrowing billions to make up for the shortfall.
