(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 21, 2008 ) San Angelo, TX – In an effort to learn how much consumers know about emu products, the American Emu Association (AEA) has launched “Do You Know Emu,” an online survey of basic emu oil and meat facts. As a thank you for taking the survey, participants will automatically be entered in a drawing for a free copy of Emu, Life Just Got Healthier – the official American Emu Association cookbook. Three copies will be given away each month until June, 2008. Drawings will take place on or about the first of the month and the cookbooks will be mailed out within a week. The survey does not concern all products from the big bird, only the meat and oil. Survey participants will have the option of requesting more information on these two products. Officers, directors and members (including family and household members) of the American Emu Association are not eligible.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, emu are being raised on over 5,000 farms across the country. Many of these farms sell their finished, consumer ready products online or at local farmers markets.

Founded in 1989, the AEA is a nonprofit organization of breeders, producers and marketers of emu meat, oil and other emu co-products. AEA's mission is to establish value of emu products through research, market development and industry positioning. A Board of Directors elected by its members governs all AEA activities. Through the voluntary efforts of its members, the AEA has worked to develop a consistent numbering system and nomenclature for cuts of meat, gained mandatory USDA inspection of emu meat at processing, gained acceptance for the emu into the National Poultry Improvement Plan, has established international trade rules for emu oil and created an Oil Certification Program to ensure the consumer a safe product. The AEA publishes the EMUpdate, a bimonthly newsletter, several industry flyers and sales aids along with the National Convention handouts.
